How to Get Rid of Bacne4 min read

How to Get Rid of Bacne | health is wellth

Let’s talk about back acne. Yes, the dreaded “bacne”. You may not always see them (maybe with the help of a good mirror and craning your neck), but you can feel them. Bacne flareups can be embarrassing, unsightly, and uncomfortable. Just like acne on your face, bacne occurs when oil and dead skin cells block the pores, causing bacterial buildup and inflammation. And yes, what you already know about your face still applies — picking at it doesn’t help.

Bacne can happen at any time and can have a variety of causes. Some common causes for outbreak are poor diet and hygiene, exercise, hormones, and environment. However, with the right treatments, you can get your bacne under control.

Bun it

Going for a sweat session? Tie your hair up in a bun! It sounds simple, but it works. My bacne improved when I stopped wearing my hair in a low pony tail allowing it to cover my back. Though the low ponytail seemed practical for moving around, it was spreading oils from my hair unto my back. The friction of my hair didn’t help either, and the result was an inflamed colony on my back.

Keep it clean

When we sleep, we sweat, and that bacteria can get caught in our sheets. If you are not washing your sheets regularly, that bacteria can spread to your back causing unwanted flareups. To prevent bacne, wash your pillowcases and sheets once a week. Your back will thank you.

Use the right cleanser
Mario Badescu AHA Botanical Body Soap

Everyone’s skin type is different, so it is important to find the a cleanser that performs well foryour skin. I personally like using foaming cleansers, particularly Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash. The foam gets deep into my pores on my back to remove oils and debris. If foam is not for you, also try Mario Badescu’s AHA Botanical Body Soap. Since this cleanser contains AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), it is great for cell turnover, exfoliating the skin, and reducing pore blockages. Whatever you choose to use, make sure the cleanser you use does not leave your skin feeling tight or irritated as that could exacerbate your bacne problem.

French Girl Organics Sea Polish

Exfoliation is not only for your face and lips, but also for your body. Proper exfoliation increases cell turnover which is great for speeding up the healing process. It is also a great way to heal those leftover dark marks. A great option is French Girl Organics Sea Polish (also available in Rose) which is filled with organic ingredients to both nourish and revitalize your skin. If you do not like using an exfoliating body polish, use a body brush instead. Make sure to brush in circular motions to both exfoliate and increase blood flow to the area.

Skincare for your body
The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

Beyond acne flareups, some skin types are susceptible to hyperpigmentation. Products that contain arbutin acid and niacinamide are great to treat the dark marks from hyperpigmentation. Two products that have helped even out the tone on my back are The Ordinary’s Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. However, when using these products, be patient. Dark marks can take a long time to remove. In addition, for those who have a problem with hyperpigmentation, it is very important to wear SPF everyday. Make sure those dark marks do not get worse.

Always moisturize
Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion

Just like your face, it is important to moisturize your body. However, you do not need an expensive body cream to get the benefits. Cetaphil’s Moisturizing Lotion is a great option for all skin types, even those those with sensitive skin. After showering, lather your back and the rest of your body with this hydrating cream.

Solving back acne can be a process of elimination. So don’t let bacne get you down — be patient and consistent with your bodycare routine. Soon the problem with be long behind you!
