A delicious tonic or happy hour cocktail that supports gut health.

  • 1 large piece of fresh ginger (about the size of your palm), peeled
  • 4 two inch pieces of turmeric, peeled
  • 2 lemons
  • 5 tbsp agave syrup (or to taste)
  • sparkling water
  • dash of cayenne pepper
  • 1 to 2 oz of tequila or mezcal (optional)

  1. Before you start, rinse your cocktail glasses with water and put in freezer.
  2. If you have a juicer, put the peeled ginger, turmeric and lemons into a juicer and proceed to juice into a glass jar.
  3. If you have a blender, put the peeled ginger and turmeric into a blender with a small amount of water and the juice of both lemons. Blend until smooth. Use a large sifter to separate the juice from the fibers into a glass jar.
  4. Stir in your agave nectar.
  5. To make your tonic, mix 2 oz of your ginger turmeric juice with a splash of sparkling water.
  6. To make your cocktail, pour 2 oz of your ginger turmeric juice in a cocktail shaker with three ice cubes.
  7. Shake for 10 seconds and pour into an ice-filled glass. Add sparkling water to taste.
    1. Add a dash of cayenne and garnish with fresh herbs or flowers.

If you want to make it ahead of time, your ginger turmeric wellness shot or tonic can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks!

Give this drink a try! It makes for a great wellness shot or tonic to drink on the go. It might also become a regular in your summer aperitif rotation.
